WoW Forever Legacy System: Every Legacy Point, Perk and Reward
How the Legacy System works in World of Warcraft: Forever: all 65 Legacy Challenges and the point each one gives, the perk trees you spend them in, the 16-point cap, the account-wide rewards, and which points are quickest to get.

Quick summary
- Legacy Points are account-wide: 65 Legacy Challenges in six categories, one point each.
- Each character spends them separately in three perk trees: Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness.
- A character can spend up to 16 points, and one character alone can earn up to 29.
- Your account total also unlocks four rewards: a toy, a pet, a tabard and a mount.
- Hardcore keeps its own Legacy progress; challenges earned there count everywhere else.
What the Legacy System is
Legacy is WoW: Forever’s account-wide progression. Instead of more raw power, it rewards you for doing a bit of everything: leveling classes, raising professions, PvP, exploring and clearing dungeons and raids. You don’t need alts for it: Blizzard designed it so that every character advantage can be unlocked on a single character.
It has three parts:
- Legacy Challenges: milestones that each give one Legacy Point.
- Legacy Perks: three talent-style trees where each character spends points.
- Legacy Rewards: cosmetics unlocked by your account’s total points.
The system opens with your first point. For most players that’s their first character reaching level 25, but reaching 150 in a crafting profession or exploring the whole world map unlocks it too. Open it from the shield icon on the menu bar or press Y.

All 65 Legacy Challenges
Every challenge gives one point, shared by all your characters (Hardcore aside, see below).
| Category | Points | How you earn them |
|---|---|---|
| Classes | 27 | Reach level 25, 45 and 60 with each of the nine classes |
| Tradeskills | 18 | Reach skill 150, 225 and 300 in each crafting profession. Gathering and secondary professions (Herbalism, Mining, Skinning, Cooking, First Aid, Fishing) give none. |
| Player vs. Player | 12 | Reach PvP ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 (5); Exalted with each battleground reputation (4); the week 4, 7 and 10 quests of the Field of Honor season journey (3) |
| Adventure | 2 | Explore the entire world map on one character; complete the Lord Valthalak dungeon-set questline |
| Dungeons | 3 | Defeat the final boss of every dungeon in each bracket: levels 15–25, 26–45 and 46–60 |
| Raids | 3 | Defeat Onyxia; all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses; all 8 Barrow Deeps bosses |
Raids open some weeks after the game itself, so the three raid points come later than the rest. See the raids guide for the bosses.
Earn your Legacy Points faster
The 16-point cap, and why one character is enough
Points are earned by the account, but each character spends them on its own, and differently if you like: one character can go all in on professions, another on adventure. A character can spend up to 16 points for now. Blizzard set the cap so new players aren’t hopelessly behind, and so nobody has to level alts to get there.
Blizzard’s own maths for a single character: 3 points from leveling, up to 6 from two crafting professions, 12 from PvP, 2 from Adventure and 6 from dungeons and raids, for 29 possible points without making a second character. That’s comfortably over the 16 you can spend.

Every Legacy Perk
Professions
- Working Overtime: a better chance to gain a skill point in every tradeskill, including class ones like Lockpicking.
- Bountiful Harvest: find extra Scarce resources when mining, herbing or skinning.
- Bartering: lower gold prices at vendors.
- Performance Bonus: sometimes gain extra Merchant’s Favor from the Azeroth Commerce Authority (Alliance) or Durotar Supply and Logistics (Horde), the two new factions behind many tradeskill activities.
- Master Chef: a chance for cooking recipes to make extra food.
- Luremaster: a chance to fish up extra fish.
- Dedicated Study: a daily cooldown that speeds up your tradeskills, or gives free Elemental Essences once they’re all at 300.
Adventure
- Well Rested: a higher rested-experience cap that also fills faster.
- Thrill of Adventure: regain a little health and mana after every non-trivial kill.
- High Alert: better stealth detection outside battlegrounds.
- Field Guide: a shorter cooldown on placing camping features (normally one hour).
- Field Medicine: a shorter Recently Bandaged debuff, outside dungeons, raids and battlegrounds.
- Talented: unlock talent points up to five levels earlier.
- Frequent Flier: cheaper and faster flights.
Resourcefulness
- Gourmand: food buffs last longer.
- The Quick and the Dead: run back to your corpse faster, and party and raid buffs cost nothing after a resurrection, so wipes take less time.
- Reinforce: less durability damage when you die.
- For Great Honor: more Honor from PvP.
- Permanence: party, raid and camping buffs last longer.
- Diplomat: faster reputation gains.
- Reagent Economy: class abilities stop needing vendor reagents, and tier 1 camping features need no materials.
Which perks to take first
Blizzard hasn’t published the cost of each perk, so treat this as a starting point rather than a build:
- Leveling a new character: Well Rested, Talented and Thrill of Adventure save the most time on the way to 60. See the leveling guide.
- Making gold: Bartering, Bountiful Harvest and Dedicated Study. The gold guide covers the rest.
- PvP: For Great Honor first: PvP gear and its upgrades cost a lot of honor.
- Raiding: The Quick and the Dead, Reinforce and Permanence make wipes cheaper; Reagent Economy saves gold every night for reagent-hungry classes.

Legacy Rewards
Separately from perks, your account’s total points unlock cosmetics. There are four to start with, and Blizzard plans more with every content update:
- Replica Ironforge Air Rifle: a toy for shootouts with other players; the guns stun and keep score.
- Spectral Bear Cub: a pet inspired by the dwarf hunter and his bear in the WoW: Forever cinematic.
- Spectral Bear Tabard.
- Reins of the Spectral Bear: a spectral mount.
All four are exclusive to the Legacy System. The mount services can’t buy the Spectral Bear: it only comes from Legacy Points.
The quickest points
- Leveling: your first character gives three points on the way to 60 (at 25, 45 and 60). A second class gives three more.
- Two crafting professions: up to six points by 300. Gathering pays for them but gives no points itself.
- Dungeon brackets: three points for clearing every dungeon in each level range, which you do anyway while leveling and gearing. See the dungeons guide.
- PvP ranks 3 and 7: the two easiest PvP points; ranks 10 to 14 take far longer.
- Exploration: one point for uncovering the whole world map on one character.
Legacy on Hardcore
Hardcore arrives after launch and works differently. Challenges earned on Normal, PvP or Roleplaying don’t count on Hardcore, but anything earned on Hardcore counts on every other ruleset too. PvP challenges can’t be done on Hardcore, so it gets 12 Hardcore-only challenges instead. More on how rulesets differ in the rulesets guide.
What’s next for Legacy
Blizzard calls the system “in its infancy”: new Legacy Challenges come with every content release, new perks get added to the existing trees first and to new trees later, and the rewards track grows with more cosmetics and toys.
