Quick summary

  • Nine new dungeons launch with the game on 4 November, from Hall of Thanes (13–18) to Shaper’s Terrace (58–60).
  • Every original dungeon stays, so there are more choices at every level than there were in Classic.
  • New dungeon bosses drop unique items, and every class gets a new tier set.
  • Green and blue dungeon drops unlock their transmog for every eligible player in the group, not just the looter.
  • There is no Dungeon Finder. You build groups in the world or in chat.

The nine new dungeons at a glance

Blizzard describes the new dungeons as long-discussed places in the original world finally brought to life. Here is the full list with the level ranges announced for launch:

DungeonLevelsWhat we know
Hall of Thanes13–18Beneath Ironforge
Ruins of Lordaeron15–20The Forsaken try to reclaim the old capital
Whelgar’s Excavation Site24–29A mysterious dig at Whelgar’s Excavation
City of Dalaran28–33Strange magical trouble in the mage city
The Drowned City35–40Naga and pirates

Alcaz Prison48–53Details still to come
Blackmaw Hold55–60Corruption stirring in its depths

Blizzard also mentions a titan mystery in Un’Goro among the new destinations. Boss lists and loot tables haven’t been published in full yet, and we’ll add them here once they are.

The early dungeons (13–33)

Hall of Thanes (13–18)

The first new dungeon you can enter, and one of the few early dungeons in the Alliance’s dwarven heartland. At 13 it sits alongside Ragefire Chasm and before Deadmines, which gives Alliance players in particular an early group option.

Ruins of Lordaeron (15–20)

The ruined human capital above the Undercity, where the Forsaken are trying to take back what’s theirs. It overlaps Hall of Thanes almost completely, so there are now two new dungeons in the late teens.

Whelgar’s Excavation Site (24–29) and City of Dalaran (28–33)

Two mid-20s to low-30s options, a range that used to have only a handful of dungeons. Dalaran is the mage city in Alterac, sealed behind its barrier in the original game.

The mid and late dungeons (35–60)

The Drowned City (35–40)

Naga and pirates, landing right in the Riverglades level range, so it pairs well with questing there.

Krol’dok Stronghold (40–55) and Alcaz Prison (48–53)

Krol’dok spans fifteen levels, so you can run it more than once on the way up. Alcaz Prison’s name points to Alcaz Island off Dustwallow Marsh, which was out of reach in the original game, but Blizzard hasn’t shown where the entrance is yet.

Blackmaw Hold (55–60) and Shaper’s Terrace (58–60)

The two endgame dungeons. With Scholomance, Stratholme and Blackrock Spire still around, pre-raid gearing has more routes than it did in Classic.

Loot, tier sets and transmog

  • Unique drops. Bosses in the new dungeons drop items you can’t get anywhere else.
  • New tier sets. Every class gets a new tier set in WoW Forever.
  • Shared transmog. Transmog is opt-in, and when a green or blue drops in a dungeon, its appearance unlocks for every eligible player in the group. Raid epics are different: only the player who loots one unlocks it.

Getting a group without a Dungeon Finder

WoW Forever has no Dungeon Finder, on purpose: Blizzard wants groups to come from the world. In practice that means:

  • Ask in the zone and trade channels near the dungeon, and say your role up front.
  • Keep the people you quest with. A group that already works together clears faster.
  • With one shared world per ruleset (Normal, PvP or RP), there are more players to group with than on a single Classic realm.

The original dungeons are all still here

Deadmines, Scarlet Monastery, Zul’Farrak, Blackrock Depths, Dire Maul, Stratholme and the rest stay in the game. The new dungeons fill gaps rather than replace anything, so most level ranges now have two or three choices.
